Our Kindergarten has reopened on 4th June and please see the pictures here

Dear friends,

Our Karunya Kindergarten was founded in July 2005 as a charity project for the tsunami victims in Colachel, a small fishing village in Tamil Nadu, South India. Karunya was formally inaugurated by the Mayor of the German City Wolfegg, Mr. Gerd Groeschl on 20th of October. Mrs. Groeschl and Mrs. Dr. Margret Brehm, were also present on this occasion. Tsunami- project

We are extremely glad to inform you that in addition to this Kindergarten project, we have also successfully completed the construction of five houses in Colachel and handed over the keys to the five families at a small but beautiful function in Colachel on that day itself, when our Kindergarten was inaugurated. The Superintendant of Police in Nagercoil was our chief guest, who kindly agreed to grace this occasion with his presence and hand over the keys. Our sincere thanks to all donors and well-wishers for the generous support. (Pictures).

The genesis of LEBENSLICHT

When the killer waves struck the Asian nations and killed hundreds of thousands of people on December 26th, we too felt the shock within our hearts and decided to do something for the victims. We visited the village of Colachel several times during January 2005 and the pictures of devastation compelled us to initiate a project rather than letting our donations disappear in the many funds floated by different organizations. The initial idea was to help five families reconstruct their houses. Together with the support of our friends in India and across the world, we decided to form the Charitable Trust LEBENSLICHT and thus bring light into the lives of at least some people suffering in our country. The word LEBENSLICHT is German for LIGHT OF LIFE, and we decided to name the charity thus because of the wonderfully generous response from some good friends and colleagues in the German-speaking countries, immediately following the tragic events of December 26th – it was with their generous contributions and encouragement that we decided to progress the whole idea.

Karunya Kindergarten Turns Ten!

With great pride and pleasure we wish to inform that our Karunya Kindergarten is turning ten this June. For the last ten years, Karunya has been offering quality Montessori education to hundreds of children from less privileged sections of the society in and around Colachel. We wish to thank the German city of Wolfegg and its Mayor Mr. Peter Müller, TRANSINDUS Tours in Kochi and all our well-wishers and friends on this occasion for their relentless support.
